About Computer Hardware

computer hardwareA computer hardware is any device that’s related to your computer like hard disks, motherboards, graphics, memory, CPU etc. A hardware is any computer part that you can touch and a software is a something you can’t touch. Windows itself is a software and because it got no physical form, it’s not a hardware. A hardware is not only found in a computer, everything that’s related to your computer like a keyboard, a mouse, speakers and monitors are also hardware. Many people think that a hardware is just a hard disk, but everything that is related to a computer and got a physical form is treated as a hardware so the computer is a hardware itself.

Computer Hardware and Computer Software!

If you buy a disc to install a program on your computer, the disc is hardware but the program is a software. It can feel a bit confusing to know where the line between a hardware and software goes, but a software always comes in a digital form and a hardware in a physical form. Devices like USB memories, external hard disks and other storage devices is also hardware. Sometimes there’s a line between hardware and computer hardware, but the exact word that most people use for everything related to a computer is PC hardware, and that’s included every computer device that’s got a physical form.

The hardware can’t function without device drivers, and a driver is a digital file so a software can’t function without hardware and vice versa. When hardware problems occur, it usually got to do with device driver problems. It’s important to have the right drivers installed and that the drivers are updated with the latest versions. If a hardware part is damaged, it’s better to return it to the supplier if you have a guarantee or contact a hardware repair technician. It’s very hard to fix a hardware if you don’t have the right experience and knowledge. Don’t try to fix it yourself because if you put it back in your computer and it’s not fixed, it can damage other hardware parts too.

A fun thing with a computer is that you can upgrade it with more RAM, a more powerful CPU and a with a better graphic card. But make sure you got the right parts, because incompatible hardware parts will not work and in the worst scenario, it can ruin other hardware parts, and that’s both frustrating and expensive. Always ask your hardware supplier if the parts are compatible with each other before you start to build or upgrade your computer.

If you experience problems with your hardware and you have checked the device Drivers, you need to check if there’s problems with the cables or if you got an overheated CPU, hard disk or graphic card. An overheated computer can lead to many problems, so you need to get a better CPU cooler or install extra fans to cool your hard disks and graphic card. If you don’t do anything about hardware problems it can lead to unexpected shutdowns and damaged hardware parts.

So now you know the difference between hardware and software, and that everything that’s related to PC hardware must have a physical form. Take good care of your computer and make sure you got a good cooling system, right device drivers installed and a healthy operating system.
