10 Tips On How To Protect Your Computer From Viruses!

1. Browsing behavior. Always use common sense when you browse the internet. If you visit a website with bad design and suspicious animations, don’t click on anything, leave the site as fast as you can. Malicious files can access your computer without any action made from your side, so be careful when you visit unknown websites.

2. Make sure you use a good antivirus program. There are a lot of antivirus programs available, but all antivirus programs are not created equal. To find a virus, the program must know how a particular virus looks like, they must know the virus signature. To find virus signatures, an antivirus company must hire professional security technicians, and some developers can’t keep up with the cost. You can use a free antivirus program, but I would strongly recommend you to use a premium antivirus program like Defender Pro. Because computer security is nothing you should take lightly.

3. Update your antivirus software regularly. An antivirus program is only as strong as its recent update. New viruses are created on a daily basis, and some of them can slip by a program that’s not updated. Most antivirus programs use automatic scans and updates, but it’s a good idea to keep an extra eye on it anyway.

4. Don’t download files from unknown websites. Don’t download files from unreliable sources such as forums and websites you never heard of before. Viruses could be included into freeware, games, screensavers or other executable programs. You can download files to a folder in your computer, and then do an antivirus scan on each file before you run it.

5. Check all email attachments. Always scan email attachments before you open or download them. Even if you get a funny picture from a friend, you should scan it before open. Trojans and Spyware often seem to come from a friendly source, and if you’re not careful enough, they could slip into your computer system.

6. Check all running processes. Open the Task Manager and click on the processes tab to see which processes that are running. If a process is using a lot of CPU resources and you don’t recognize the program’s name, you should do a Google search for its name, to see if it’s legitimate or not. If it’s a malicious program, end it immediately and look for its location so you can delete it completely.

7. Use a firewall. Windows already got a firewall that checks incoming connections, make sure it’s on. A firewall is like a barrier between your computer and internet and checks every incoming connection to see if you requested it or not. A firewall is a powerful security guard against unwanted access, and every computer user should have a firewall activated.

8. Don’t share storage units. Don’t share USB flash drives or other external storage devices. It doesn’t matter if you trust the person you borrow it from, your friend could have infected files without knowing it. If you have to use a shared storage unit, scan it before copying anything.

9. Use Spyware Protection. An antivirus program is great when it comes to defend your computer against viruses, but to detect Spyware is another story. The best way to keep your computer protected against both viruses and Spyware, is to use an anti spyware software like Spyhunter. You can’t get too much protection against malicious files.

10. Backup important files regularly. If your computer is infected with a virus, it can be hard to get rid of it. And usually you have to format your hard disk and reinstall Windows. If you don’t have backup’s, you could lose a lot of important files. To backup files is easy and can save you from future trouble.

I know that it’s easy to not think about computer security. But it’s so much harder to remove a virus or a Spyware once it has slipped into your computer system. Doing everything you can to prevent malicious programs from accessing your computer will help to keep your computer in a good shape, and it can also help you save money. Losing precious files and documents is not only a bad experience, it can also cause you a lot of problems, so before anything bad happens, make sure you check everything that can cause trouble such as security flaws and outdated antivirus programs.

    Nice tips I must say!

I think it all depends on us, our working behavior is what lets a virus enter our PC. For eg if we download software from unknown sources and never update our antivirus, etc like you said here.
